Quick-Start Guide
Welcome to Matrix, Mr. Smith!
This quick-start user guide is intended to show you the principal characteristics and most important features of our 22TFlop Linux cluster.
Log in to matrix.caspur.it using an ssh client or an NX client for a Full Graphical Login Access.
We provide a number of storage areas serving different needs: the /home is a very small area for login only, the /work should be the actual working space and /scratch should be used to store temporary files (an automatic cleaning policy is active on /scratch deleting files older than 14 days).
Disk space limits (quotas) are active on /home and /work. At present, the /work area is backupped once a week. If you want to permanently backup your data, use the staging system.
Access to available applications and to development tools (like compilers and libraries) is provided by means of environment modules. Modules are handled via the module command.
Use “module list” to obtain a list of available modules and “module load” to load the module you need.
Resources are granted through job requests to the resource manager. Use qsub command to submit your job to the queuing system. Use qstat or showq commands to get info on waiting jobs and queue status, checkjob to check the status of a particular job, and qdel to delete a job.
Users can query the system for remaining computing credit using the mybalance -h command, or select Accounting in the menu bar as described in the FAQ.
Support is provided through forums at: http://hpc.caspur.it/forums.
